Latest on 3D Systems

South Carolina based 3D Systems is keeping up good pace and constantly appearing in the news with new announcements: acquisitions, product updates and mainstream media exposure.

Acquisitions

Yesterday 3D Systems announced that it has acquired The Innovative Modelmakers (TIM), a leading full service provider of on-demand custom parts, based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The plan is to integrate TIM’s existing operations into 3D Systems’ Benelux on-demand parts service operations, which would allow them to offer a full range of rapid prototyping, model-making and manufacturing solutions for design-to-manufacturing professionals and, notably, consumers.

3D Systems’ Director On-Demand Parts Europe, Ziad Abou, was very excited about the news, “We are very pleased to add a company of TIM’s reputation, craftsmanship, flexibility and speed to our growing on-demand custom parts services network in Europe. With TIM’s expertise on board, we can serve our European growing customer base better, faster and with an expanded menu of services.”

Product updates

A few days prior to this, 3D Systems also announced the Cubify® Bugdroids app, available exclusively on Cubify.com. Cubify® Bugdroids is an Android app that allows the user to customise their own Android figurine online, which is then subsequently 3D printed in colour using 3D Systems’ ZPrinter® technology. Customisation options include hats, horns and various textures and colours. Via the app the users can create their figurine, have it 3D printed and shipped to their desired location. The company also took the opportunity to remind customers that their new line of Android phone cases is also available at Cubify.com

Mainstream Media

3D Systems has also been visible in the mainstream media lately. Watch 3D System’s Cube presented on the NBC Today Show from yesterday morning:
