The Jobe Smartphone VR Headset Now Available for Preorder

The Jobe headset was designed to allow users to experience virtual reality (VR) through their smartphone. The headset can fit most smartphones on the market today, and can be used to experience VR, augmented reality (AR), watch movies and for immersive gaming.

The Jobe was named after the titular character from the generally pretty terrible 1992 science fiction movie Lawnmower Man. It’s about a developmentally disabled gardener who is experimented on by a scientist and artificially evolved into a powerful being of pure energy. I’m not exactly sure why you’d name a product after the victim of illegal human medical experimentation, but independent of that the Jobe VR headset actually looks pretty cool.

The headset has a pair of lenses that the manufacturer says provides the wearer with a cinematic experience similar to watching an iMax movie. It can also create 3D stereoscopic viewing, which can simulate 3D depth by presenting individual offset images for each eye. This causes the brain to combine both images, giving the illusion of 3D.

Here is a video about the Jobe VR headset and what you can expect from it when it’s released:

Jobe will accommodate virtually any smartphone on the market, including the big guys with 5.5 inch screens. The strap and headset have silicon cushioning to make it comfortable enough to allow the experience to be as immersive as possible.

While there is currently no release date for the VR headset, it is available to preorder for $89. The manufacturers are also readying a Kickstarter campaign to be launched within the next few weeks. You can find out more about the Jobe Virtual Reality headset here.
