Want the Best Build Volume to Price Ratio? gCreate’s “Plus” 3D Printers Have You Covered

Not content with having some of the best build-volume-to-price ratios in FFF based 3D printers, New York City-based gCreate pushed the bar (the Z axis bar) just a bit higher, adding a plus to their names and a few inches to their 3D printers’ build space height capabilities.

The new gMax 1.5+ and gMax 1.5 XT+ can now, respectively, 3D print objects as tall as 10” and a whopping 21” for the larger model, each starting from a base of 16” x 16”, which remains unvaried from the earlier versions.

Founded in 2013 by Anna Lee and Gordon LaPlante in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, gCreate’s mission is to to be the premiere one-stop source for 3D printing and fabrication.. The duo seek to “continuously disrupt the status quo and introduce groundbreaking innovations to the mainstream in high-quality and cost-effective ways.” One way is by manufacturing machines that offer huge build volumes at very affordable prices.

The gMax 1.5 starts at $2,495 with the build volume standing at 3,072 cubic inches ,while the gMax 1.5XT+ starts at $2,995, with the build volume at (5,376 cubic inches, which, as gCreate founders pointed out, is more than twice as much as the largest 3D printer by another very well-known Brooklyn-based manufacturer, MakerBot’s Z18.

While the Z18 does offer several features including the closed chamber, which may drive up the costs, it is interesting to note that the price to build volume ratio of the new gCreate 3D printers even beats those offered by some of the most noticeable low-cost projects to hit Kickstarter and/or the retail market recently, including the TIKO 3D, Micro3D, and Gigabot 3D printers.

“My partner and I started out of a one bedroom apartment in Bedstuy  and have been bootstrapping our company and successfully growing since,” says gCreate’s cofounder Anna Lee. “We are now located in Industry City, just a few short blocks from Makerbot, where we design, manufacture, and ship every printer. Although we are the quintessential underdogs, gCreate is poised to be the next leader of additive manufacturing technology.”

In fact, the company has come a long way and is now growing into a serious contender, with yet another upgrade to its machines, new media content and a redesign of the community forum, introducing social media share buttons, a “thanks” system for thanking posts, and an online gallery to upload images to – a welcome change, since gMax users have been gCreating objects such as this Ultron Helmet and it will be very interesting to see what they will come up with next by exploiting the larger build volumes.
