A couple of weeks ago we reported about ChocaByte, an affordable Chocolate 3D Printer that was launched at CES. Now we have a video of the 2nd working prototype to share for you. As you can see below, the video quality (nor the quality of print) is not great, but still it is proof of concept.
ChocaByte Video – 2nd Working Prototype

Are there edible support structures?
The welfare state…? 😉
I’m excited that this printer is using pronterface and GCode!
Okay a few thoughts:
1) It was mentioned somewhere that the Chocobyte uses an “entirely new 3D printing process” Uh, NO. That’s extruding, aka FDM/FFF.
2) It was insinuated that it would compete with the Chefjet/Chefjet Pro. Again, NO. There’s around a 1/4″ or 1/8″ worth of play in that base. Good luck with that resolution.
I understand it’s a prototype, and the finished/completed model will be much nicer, however. No iteration of this device will ever take a potential customer of a Chefjet away from buying a Chefjet.
Will they sell out all their models at $99. Sure. Will it be a good deal? Probably, for those that are looking for something like this.
Yeah, I don’t think that it’ll compete with the ChefJet machines, which I think are higher end printers for restaurants, pastry chefs, etc. This seems more like a fun, gimmicky thing for home users to play around with and print chocolate Mario figurines for one another on holidays.
