Hi-Res 3D Printed Warhammer Horde Invades Indiegogo

Games Workshop beware: consumer-made miniatures are getting better and better, catering to an ever growing demand for a more personalised strategy board game experience. Horde Invasion, a new Indiegogo project by professional digital character artist Taras Skorobruh, offers a whole range of possibilities: resin 3D printed miniatures in various sizes or the possibility to 3D print them yourself at home.

The digital source files for home 3D printers, available as a full Digital Horde package for $49 (or for $5 for a single character), are broken up into pieces to assemble and are ready to be fed into to your high resolution resin 3D printer, or, if you are going for larger sizes, even on a filament-based desktop system.

If you don’t have your own 3D printer, the master models can be printed for you in resin for casting on an Objet Eden250 with 16 micron accuracy. You have a choice between 32 mm ($12) and 75 mm ($35) versions, also available as squads of four characters. The 32 mm characters are compatible with any fantasy boardgames, such as Warhammer Fantasy Battles and come with square stands.

The 75 mm characters are more for decorative purposes and come with round stands. As you can see from the images, the high resolution allows for an incredible level of detail. Depending on your pledge level (at the moment of writing there are still 10 days left to the campaign), you will also receive an art book on the project in either digital or paper form, with concepts, renders, and tutorials for painting.

As WFB players know well, no matter how good the manufacturing process is, it is still your own finish that will make the difference.
