German 3D printing software developer 3YOURMIND has been awarded with €1.3 million to integrate machine learning solutions into its additive manufacturing workflow.
Co-financed by Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), this funding is part of the Pro FIT project which supports innovative technological developments.

“AM is already a data-driven production method and we are the leading company to focus on connecting and optimizing workflows using that data. 3YOURMIND is developing the software infrastructure for a level of automation we call agile manufacturing; the ability to quickly and accurately adapt production to customer needs and company resources.”
Additive manufacturing and machine learning
Founded in 2014, 3YOURMIND software digitizes additive manufacturing processes for companies in the U.S. and Europe. An addition to its existing end-to-end workflow management platforms, Agile Manufacturing Execution System (Agile MES) has been launched to enable automated part and job scheduling.
Agile MES also allows OEMs to execute functions such as accurate pricing, file management, automated order processing and transparent tracking of the production floor. 3YOURMIND believes that adding machine learning to these processes will advance additive manufacturing “to the level of automation seen from Industry 4.0.”
In particular, the funding will add artificial neural networks (ANNs), which automatically aid programming challenges, in 3YOURMIND software. Peter Schwarz, Project Manager at Förderbar, a Berlin-based financial consultant involved in the Pro FIT project added:
“3YOURMIND has already proven its innovative strength, efficiency through strong cooperation in the past. We know they will use the new funding to ‘add speed to AM adoption’. We are proud to support them securing the funding of 1.3 million euros, and help 3YOURMIND to further extend its technological lead.”
Pro FIT “Smart 3D printing”
Under the Pro FIT Berlin project “Smart 3D printing” 3YOURMIND plans to analyze 3D printed part information and platform usage from opt-in environments, evaluating data to identify codify patterns. This will then be tested into its workflow to accelerate part selection, production recommendations, scheduling, nesting and overall orientation.
This project began in October 2018 and will continue over the next two years for the programming development work to integrate machine learning directly into the 3YOURMIND software suite.
