Amazing 3D Printed Model to Launch the New Subaru Impreza in Spectacular Video

3d printing Subaru 2015 imprezaFor many off-road and rally enthusiasts the Subaru Impreza is as close to perfection as it gets. So when Subaru decided to ask a Japanese studio to make a promotional video for the launch of the new 2015 WRX STI (coming out in spring 2014), the model used had to be just a perfect scaled reproduction of the real thing. And the only way to do that, precisely and rapidly, was (of course) through 3D printing.

In the WRX STI Vs StickBomb video, which you can see below, the Japanese team raced the 3D printed radio-controlled Impreza against a StickBomb track. Although they have no practical use, stick bombs are highly spectacular spring-loaded devices constructed out of flat sticks woven together under tension. As the Impreza model zoomed by them, the sticks exploded in a fast wave of chaos, in a head to head competition that could only end with an even more spectacular massive stick bomb explosion.

Apparently, though, the radio-control team was just as amazed by the meticulously detailed 3D pretend model as they were by the excitement of the race. This is, however, the typical case where a video is worth more than a million words. So judge for yourselves. Ready, set, go!
