Online retailer Alibaba visited Winbo’s offices recently in order to get an insight into 3D printing. Winbo are a Chinese 3D printing company that manufacture 3D printers in an array of different sizes, and colours, as well as offering 3D printed services and 3D printable designs. While Alibaba are an online commerce company which, as of 2016, claim the status of the ‘World’s largest retailer’ having overtaken Walmart. The company was only founded in 1999 are keen to learn more about the 3D printing industry. Especially how best to utilize it into their existing enterprises.
About 50 of Alibaba’s employee’s were present during the tour of Winbo in which they saw a variety of 3D printed objects that Winbo display in their offices, as well as some of Winbo’s 3D printers. Items included 3D printed chairs, 3D printed lights and chandeliers, and home-ware items.
While learning about 3D printing technology, the two companies were able to jointly gain from the experience with lengthy discussions regarding ‘Business model and Philosophy’. Winbo shared their experiences with 3D printing and gave an insight into the 3D printing market. Winbo made reference to their Confucian influence, explaining how their business has been inspired by the Analects written by the ancient Chinese philosopher.
Following the tour and talk by Winbo, the Chinese company offered Alibaba 3D printed gifts to take home with them before posing together outside Winbo’s offices.
