YouMagine is Betting an Ultimaker that You Can Invent a New 3D Printing Technology

3D printing community and marketplace YouMagine has launched their Develop a New 3D Printing Technology Challenge in the hope that they can discover, incubate, and help develop the next big, open source, 3D printing advancement. The winner of the challenge to be selected by the staff at YouMagine will be given an Ultimaker Original kit to help develop the new technology.

In order to participate, YouMagine users need to submit detailed plans for the development of a new or improved 3D printing technology to the site’s Design Ideas section. The idea must be a new idea or a dramatic improvement on existing technology. Submissions should clearly detail how it will be developed and what sort of time frame will be required for that development. YouMagine is also encouraging groups, classes, and organizations to submit ideas together.

The winning concept will be selected by the YouMagine staff on February 1st. In return, the winner of the challenge will agree to use the prize of an Ultimaker Original Kit in the development and implementation of the new technology. The winner will also be expected to include the YouMagine community in the development process, so that everyone can learn from their successes and failures. The winning idea must be presented to the community no later than June 1st, 2015, carrying an open source license of the inventor’s choice so that the invention may be shared with the entire community and the world.
