Voestalpine has announced plans to expand its additive manufacturing operations further in the Asian market.
Founded in 1938, Voestalpine specializes in steel technologies and is active in the automotive, aerospace, oil & gas and marine sector. With 500 group companies and operations in fifty countries, Voestalpine is one of the largest steel-based technology firms in Europe. Additive Manufacturing Center
In 2016, Voestalpine founded the Additive Manufacturing Center in Dusseldorf. The center was established in collaboration with Voetalpine’s subsidiary steel companies, the Austrian Böhler Edelstahl and Uddeholms AB, based in Sweden. The two subsidiaries are hubs for metal powder production for 3D printing.
In the past, the Additive Manufacturing Center has collaborated with the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) to 3D print sampling scoop tool. The tool was coated with titanium nitride and was used to collect samples from a simulated Mars environment in Oman.
Exploring the Asian market
In 2017, Veostalpine invested €50 million in a bid to extend its additive manufacturing network to Taiwan and Singapore, where parts are produced using DMG Mori Lasertec 65 3D. Voestalpine is also a member of Singapore’s technology accelerator Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Center (ARTC), which includes partners like Rolls Royce and Siemens.
Current investments in Taiwan and Singapore include the development of additive manufacturing competence centers. Continuing the growth, Voestalpine has announced that it will further expand its additive manufacturing operations in the Asia Pacific region. Already this year, Voestalpine has installed a 3D printer at the Taiwanese AM center. Furthermore, in May, a new 3D printer will fully operational at the Singapore facility.
