Sketchfab Wants Your 3D Models to Tell its Users Their Story

Paris and New York City based Sketchfab is one of the most successful 3D model sharing platforms because it integrated from the onset a system based on accessible WebGL technology and social media features. To further expand its user-friendliness, Sketchfab is introducing a new feature called “Annotations” that will let your 3D model tell its own story to the website viewers.

The way it works is extremely simple. Once you uploaded your model, all you have to do is open the settings peg with the annotations tab on the left side of the page. WebGL’s high interactivity allows for you to just double click on the exact location you would like to further describe the surface of your model.

By clicking on the camera icon to record the exact view setting, the model will rotate to the same position for anyone viewing it, thus letting you emphasize a particular point of view or, perhaps, tell a specific story. For example with the 3D Earth model supplied by Sketchfab to make its case and point, you can annotate the place you have visited or would like to go to.

In that case, though, if you have not already done so, you probably will want to switch to a PRO account, since free accounts can only add up to 5 annotations.
