SHINING 3D Launches FreeProbe Series for Hard-to-Scan Features

Chinese 3D scanning and AM solutions provider SHINING 3D has introduced the FreeProbe Series, a wireless, optical-based probe measurement solution designed to work with its Optical 3D Measuring and Dynamic Tracking platforms.

The system is intended to enhance measurement capabilities for features that are difficult to scan, including deep holes, narrow slots, and obstructed areas where precise point probing is required. FreeProbe combines scanning and probing to enable comprehensive data capture in complex or hard-to-reach areas.

Models and Capabilities
The series includes two models. FreeProbe 2 provides wireless probing for standard applications and integrates with FreeScan Trak Nova and FreeScan Trak ProW systems. FreeProbe 2 Pro adds extended probing capability, maintaining tracking accuracy when some marker plates are blocked, which is suited for obstructed or restricted features. Both models, when paired with FreeScan Trak systems, support repeatable measurements across industrial applications.

FreeProbe Series is designed for quick setup and ease of use. Wireless pairing allows connection to compatible systems in seconds, and the lightweight, ergonomic design supports extended use. Various probe tip options, including extensions and L-type configurations, allow access to deep or recessed areas. The combination of portable probing and system integration aims to provide flexible and consistent measurement for industrial inspection tasks, supporting accurate data collection in challenging scenarios.

Expanding the Reach of 3D Scanning Solutions

Recent product launches, including SHINING 3D’s FreeProbe Series, reflect the sector’s drive toward more versatile, accessible, and cost-effective scanning tools.

In June Shining 3D also launched the EinScan Rigil, a Tri-Mode laser 3D Scanner designed for professional and industrial use. Combining computing, wireless connectivity, and hybrid light technology, this device is built to deliver precision and flexibility for a variety of applications from automotive aftermarket customization to cultural heritage preservation and academic research.

Competitors are moving in the same direction. In April, Creaform, a manufacturer of 3D scanning equipment, launched Peel 3D alongside American electronics manufacturer AMETEK. The brand entered the market in 2017 to diversify the 3D scanning landscape and lower the barrier of entry for high-performance metrology.  Peel 3D launched the Peel 3 scanner in 2022 following previous Peel 1, Peel 2, and 2-S iterations. The latest professional-grade system is well suited to reverse engineering, AR, VR, and healthcare applications. Peel 3D has since introduced a new Peel 3 Pro.CAD bundle that includes the 3D scanner and Peel.CAD Pro reverse engineering software for $8,990.
