New Maker’s Tool Works Fusematic 3D Printer

Maker’s Tool Works has announced a new 3D printer kit, which they are calling the Fusematic. It is available for pre-order and succeeds the MendelMax 2 by being “smaller, faster and more affordable”. The Fusematic reportedly performs well as it encloses all electronics, which were exposed on the MendelMax, prints faster with a lighter Bowden extruder and is also easier to calibrate. Here follows a run down overview of the specifications of the new printer… There are, visibly, fewer parts involved to the assembly, but, also beware it is more complex than it may look.

Assembly

  • The machined case with integrated assembly guides aim to make alignment easy.
  • Linear rails on all axes.
  • Print controller with pre-config downloadable firmware for ‘nearly plug-and-play electronics.’

Design

  • The electronics are fully enclosed, which greatly reduces the possibility of malfunction.
  • The Bowden-style extruder makes the Fusematic 3D printer’s carriage lighter and more efficient.
  • Tuning and calibration is easy and requires no special skills.

Transport

  • A user-added printable handle can be attached to the top plate for transport.
  • The electronics fully enclosed within base: fewer loose wires to snag during transport.
  • Rugged steel and aluminum construction.
