New Low-Cost DLP 3D Printer from Czech Republic 3Dwarfs the Competition

The title of this article might be a slight hyperbole, but the name of the new DLP 3D printer from Czech Republic-based Futur3D just lent itself for such a statement. The new 3Dwarf 3D printer certainly looks like a great deal, though, offering a 105 x 155 x 210 build volume, with rapid 3D printing technology (about 3 cm per hour) for a typical layer height set at 50 micron, for 79,990 Czech Republic crowns, which is roughly €3,000.

What strikes me most about the 3D printer, other than the fact that, apparently it is ready to go and can already be purchased directly from the 3Dwarf online shop, is that it looks stylish and compact, something which the design team specifically focused on by carefully shaping the cover in order to maximize its effectiveness. The same attention to detail went into the vat, which was developed, through several prototypes, to be easy to handle and also to fit the machine’s design.

The build platform’s size, along with the size of the vat, was derived from initial calculations relative to the print area. The platform’s material was chosen to be at the same time sufficiently sticky for the model to remain stable during the printing process, while, at the same time, ensure the easy un-sticking of the finished model. The most delicate component for model accuracy, the Z-axis linear thread, was optimized by using top quality materials and processing.

The 3Dwarf has also been optimized for user friendliness, by integrating a touchscreen and several additional tools to help with the printing process. Futur3D takes 3D printing very seriously offering a large selection of assembled machines and DIY kits, as well as 3D scanning and 3D printing services. With the 3Dwarf they are directly entering the 3D printer manufacturing arena, hoping to start with a 3Dwarf and end up with a giant.
