Orbi Labs, the creators of the Milkshake3D has just launched their kickstarter for their SLA 3D printer. Referring to the device as, “the artist’s 3D printer,” the Milkshake3D aims to be an affordable resin based machine capable of high quality prints.
The device is intended to fill the gap between desktop SLA printers and larger more expensive machines. Even with the lower price point, the Milkshake3D can still provide a high level of detail with resolution down to 20 micrometres and feature sizes of as low as 50 micrometres.
Large build platform
The large platform means the printer is perfect for batch printing. Multiple objects can be printed simultaneously, and in the same amount of time as one since SLA print time is not constrained by width or depth but rather height.
Milkshake3D can also print large objects up to 288 x 162 x 160mm in size.
The Milkshake3D has its own software that even allows for remote operation. Furthermore, according to Orbi Labs, it can slice large models 3 times faster than other software. With a model size of over 400MB, it takes only an hour to slice rather than nearly five with other systems.
The company currently offer four different resins, Espresso, Mocha, Strawberry and Mango.
The Milkshake3D has particular application for creating jewelry with their Mango and Strawberry resins. From their printed resins, they can be burnt out to make unique jewelry models.
Milkshake3D has a wiper system that ensures consistency and high quality prints by optimizing the build platform after every print.
In addition to this, the SLA printer is also a top-down device which means parts are less likely to crack from the build plate. This is particularly important when printing large objects as the Milkshake3D is capable.
