Defense manufacturing startup Firestorm Labs has closed an $82 million Series B round, bringing its total capital raised to $153 million. Washington Harbour Partners led the investment, joined by several backers spanning defense, intelligence, and venture, including NEA, In-Q-Tel, Lockheed Martin Ventures, Booz Allen Ventures, Ondas, Geodesic, Motley Fool Ventures, and Litquidity Ventures. The funding arrives as the company shifts from demonstration mode into scaled deployment across active military theaters.
Firestorm’s argument is simple: centralized manufacturing and extended logistics pipelines are liabilities in high-intensity conflict, particularly in theaters like the Indo-Pacific where access and resupply can be severed. Rather than hardening existing supply chains, the company bypasses them entirely, relocating production to wherever it is needed most.
“The hard truth is that current supply chains are too fragile for high-stakes environments, particularly in the Indo-Pacific,” said Dan Magy, CEO of Firestorm Labs. “Our Series B accelerates our move into scaled production, ensuring we solve the problem of contested logistics directly at the tactical edge. We aren’t following the industry; we are leading it by moving the factory to the front lines. With successful customer deliveries and USAF and Army demonstrations behind us, we are now providing the flexible production capacity needed to strengthen the defense industrial base.”

xCell: A Containerized Factory for Combat Conditions
The vehicle for that vision is xCell, a containerized manufacturing platform that produces combat-ready unmanned systems and replacement parts on-site and on-demand. Designed to be operated by uniformed personnel in the field, it prioritizes ease of use without trading away throughput. A partnership with HP provides the industrial-grade 3D printing backbone, enabling fast design cycles and sustained output even in austere conditions.
xCell is built as an open ecosystem, allowing partner companies to plug in and manufacture their own systems, provided they adapt their designs for additive production and simplified field assembly. That openness extends the platform’s reach well beyond Firestorm’s own hardware, positioning xCell as shared infrastructure for forward-deployed production rather than a closed product line.

Scaling Fast, Deploying Faster
The Series B will fund three parallel priorities: accelerating xCell production, expanding fielding to operational units with the Indo-Pacific as the lead theater, and sustaining a hiring pace that has already grown the company from 40 to over 160 employees in twelve months.
Investors were unambiguous about what the investment signals. “Industrial capacity is no longer a background condition-it’s a frontline requirement for national security,” said Mina Faltas, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Washington Harbour Partners. “The ability to produce, adapt, and sustain systems at speed and scale will define outcomes in future conflict. We’re excited to lead Firestorm’s Series B and back a company building a new model for manufacturing that replaces centralized supply chains with deployable, containerized units that can operate at the edge.”
Lockheed Martin Ventures echoed that framing. “Equipping the warfighter with mission-critical capabilities when they’re needed most is central to Firestorm Labs’ mission,” said Chris Moran, Vice President and General Manager of Lockheed Martin Ventures. “We’re pleased to support Firestorm Labs through our strategic Lockheed Martin Ventures investment as they scale and expand fielding.”
When the Supply Chain Becomes the Vulnerability
The problem Firestorm is solving is not new, but it has become impossible to ignore. Defense supply chains were designed for predictability: centralized production, long-lead procurement, and logistics networks that assume access. Conflict in contested theaters has exposed how quickly those assumptions break down, and both governments and private capital are now responding at scale.
The institutional signal came first. The U.S. Department of Defense’s FY 2026 budget allocates $3.3 billion to additive manufacturing projects, an 83% year-on-year increase, as the Pentagon moves to expand weapons stockpiles, accelerate procurement, and localize supply chains vulnerable to disruption.
That budget shift is now showing up in operational deployments: nScrypt demonstrated its field-ready nRugged manufacturing system at Trident Warrior 2025, the U.S. Navy‘s largest distributed manufacturing exercise in Department of Defense history, producing point-of-need repairs including circuit board restoration in contested, disconnected environments.
Across the Atlantic, the UK Ministry of Defence took the same logic further, formalizing a factory-to-foxhole manufacturing strategy that embeds 3D printing directly into its defence supply chain, backed by a £1.5 billion commitment to an always-on munitions production capability.
Firestorm’s $82 million raise is the private sector’s answer to the same diagnosis. The bet is that edge manufacturing is ceasing to be a demonstration exercise and becoming a baseline operational requirement, and that the window to own that infrastructure at scale is open now.
