Eye-DNA, an optical solutions company based in Hong Kong, has launched its latest interactive virtual kiosk – the 3DNA Eyewear system – which integrates 3D scanning and design to provide user designed and precisely fit eyewear.
“3DNA turns buying eyewear into a new, collaborative experience,” said Dennis G. Zelazowski, Founder of Eye-DNA. “Instead of trying on myriad physical frames, consumers start with a 3D face scan and collaborate with the optician to customize their glasses for optimal style and fit.”
The 3DNA Eyewear system
Founded in 2012, Eye-DNA provides customizable spectacles and accessories through its proprietary laser engraving and 3D scanning technologies. With the desire to simplify the eyewear creation process, the 3DNA Eyewear system was conceptualized.
The system began with an interactive touchscreen kiosk, running from an Eye-DNA design app which allows customers and optical retailers to create customizable eyewear. Now, Eye-DNA has incorporated 3D scanning and modeling within the app to give its users a more personalized fit and design.
The new system also includes swipe-to-browse, style compare, and live assist features as well as a swatch book holding physical swatches of 80 material options. Furthermore, there are two new frame collections, from guest designers, Niels Ravn and David Keith.
The future of fashion?
3D scanning technologies are proving increasingly popular for the ever-changing, and largely digital, fashion industry.
Recently, 3DLOOK, a California-based body scanning technology startup, raised $1 million to develop its Scanning Artificial Intelligence for Apparel (SAIA) 3D body scanning technology. This enables online shoppers to virtually “try on” clothes, decreasing the risk of ill-fitting garments.
Prior to this, eyewear technology developer Sfered and 3D scanning technology developer FUEl 3D created the first 3D scanner for the eyewear sector to be incorporated into a mirror which was also designed to produce customized glasses.
