3D printing company and MakerBot retailer Fargo 3D Printing has begun offering WidgetCare extended warranties, service plans and phone support plans for new and existing MakerBot owners.
In addition to being an official MakerBot 3D printer retailer and service provider, Fargo 3D Printing has begun offering several great extended service plans that meet — and even exceed — what is being offered by MakerBot’s MakerCare service plans.
The standard WidgetCare service plans can be purchased in one, two or three year packages when you purchase a MakerBot directly from Fargo 3D Printing. The plans will allow you up to two claims per six month period of your service plan. Replacement parts due to normal wear and tear, and even accidental damage in some cases will be covered. You’ll also receive free shipping on most services, but you will have to get prior approval for that so you probably shouldn’t just ship them your MakerBot with a post-it note stuck on the front of it that says “fix me”.
And don’t worry, if you’ve purchased a MakerBot somewhere else or your MakerCare service plan has expired, within the last year, Fargo 3D Printing is offering a WidgetCare LT extended care plan. These plans offer all of the same benefits as the standard WidgetCare plans, however they can only be purchased in one or two year increments.
They are also offering a Premium Phone Support plan that is included with all of the extended care plans or can be purchased on its own for a monthly fee. If you’re a local 3D printer owner Fargo 3D Printing can even come out to you to make sure your printer is working properly and can even work with you to set up a regular maintenance schedule.
Of course the big question that most MakerBot owners will have is what happens to your service plan if you use non-MakerBot filament in your printer. The answer is nothing, WidgetCare will also allow you to use non-MakerBot filament without voiding your coverage.
Experienced makers and tinkerers are probably not going to be interested in these extended service plans, but they seem ideally suited for offices and schools who may not have someone who can keep touchy 3D printers in working order.
