The Delta WASP 3MT CONCRETE 3D printer – technical specifications and pricing

WASP has launched its new Delta WASP 3MT CONCRETE 3D printer.

The large-scale concrete 3D printer is aimed at construction professionals, educational institutes, and architects, boasting a “new standard in the additive manufacturing of concrete mortars”. According to WASP, the printer is productive, versatile, safe, and characterized by the expertise of its manufacturer. The option to swap out the nozzle for a number of modular extruder kits makes the 3MT CONCRETE an adaptable multi-material 3D printer worthy of attention.

Large-format FDM with WASP

The Italian manufacturer already has an impressive portfolio of extrusion-based delta 3D printers, with a focus on large build areas. The base ‘Delta Family’ of 3D printers feature the delta coordinate setup, characterized by the triangular formation of the stepper motors. These printers start at 2,370EUR and are capable of printing PLA, ABS, PETG, PA carbon.

The ‘Clay’ series of 3D printers feature the same delta coordinate system but focus on printing with ceramic materials instead. These start at 3,000EUR and are capable of printing up to about a meter in height. Similarly, the ‘Industrial’ series of 3D printers, with their delta system, specialize in printing technical materials. Starting at 3,490EUR, these systems are able to print a number of obscure filaments such as ASA, high-impact PS, PPS, and PMMA.

The Delta WASP 3MT CONCRETE

The latest machine in WASP’s arsenal is the 3MT CONCRETE, which is focused on architectural 3D printing with concrete, clay, and Earth-based materials. The circular MDF (medium density fiberboard) build plate is a meter in diameter, coupled with a build height of one meter enables almost 800L of printing volume. The painted 350kg steel frame features a number of metal carters to counter the vibrations produced during printing, ensuring precise nozzle placement. The machine is also bounded by expanded polymer panels that provide acoustic insulation.

The maximum print speed is 200mm/s with a maximum acceleration of 150mm/s². The concrete 3D printer can be equipped with one of two industrial tool heads. The 4-8mm XL extruder is for dense fluid materials such as porcelain whereas the larger 8-30mm XXL screw extruder is for cement mortars and clay. The XXL extruder also features a continuous feeding system for maximum throughput.

The printer comes fully licensed with Simplify3D slicing software and has its own touchscreen. Connectivity options include a USB port and Wi-Fi. The machine is CE certified and has an in-built camera for remote monitoring and timelapses. The printer’s ‘resurrection system’ automatically resumes interrupted prints after blackouts and accidental shutdowns.
