ZYYX Labs AB, a Sweden-based manufacturer of desktop 3D printers, has announced the launch of its new ZYYX Pro II system.

Designed primarily for the office and classroom, the FDM 3D printer places a major focus on comfortable indoor use, and is marketed as being extremely quiet and odorless. Based on the firm’s previously released ZYYX Pro, the machine features an enclosed build chamber measuring 285 x 235 x 210mm and is suitable for functional prototypes and end-use parts such as jigs and fixtures.

Tomas Bengtsson, CEO of ZYYX Labs, explains, “Many of our customers have expressed a need to be able to produce prototypes in a simpler way in their office environment without having to build a soundproof printer room with extraction. We have designed key components in ZYYX Pro II for the printer to be as quiet as possible.”

Composite 3D printing with ZYYX Labs

Established in 2013, ZYYX Labs started out at the business incubator Stena Center within Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, and now operates in Högsbo just south of the city center.

As well as the new ZYYX Pro II, the firm’s 3D printer portfolio contains the ZYYX, the ZYYX+, and the ZYYX Pro. The ZYYX+ is currently the most affordable of the entire offering with a price point of €1,759 ($2,050). The system features a build volume of 265 x 225 x 195mm and a 265°C hotend temperature.

Furthermore, ZYYX Labs also develops an extensive range of polymer and composite filaments for use with its systems. This includes ZYYX proCarbon (carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide), ZYYX PETG-CF (carbon fiber-reinforced PETG), and ZYYX proGlass (glass-fiber reinforced polyamide).

The ZYYX Pro II

Health and safety is an integral feature of the ZYYX Pro II, which is why ZYYX Labs has implemented its own self-developed filtering system into the 3D printer: OfficeSafe Ultra. The system combines a HEPA H13 filter with activated carbon to remove up to 99.5% of ultrafine particles and odors, eliminating the risk of harmful exposure in office spaces and classrooms.

In a bid to make the ZYYX Pro II as quiet as possible, the company has also designed its own cooling system and 500W power supply. Using fans supplied by Noctua and Arctic, which are known for their work in the low-noise gaming PC area, the printer reportedly prints at just 38 dB(A) with all of its heating elements active.

The machine also features the new hardened steel SwiftTool2 printhead, which is now insulated with a silicone hood. Available in a range of sizes, the printhead offers a maximum nozzle temperature of 275°C and is compatible with ZYYX Labs’ entire portfolio of high-performance polymer and composite filaments. Additional features of the ZYYX Pro II include a removable magnetic build plate, auto-leveling, material monitoring, and remote build management.

Bengtsson adds, “The ZYYX Pro II fills a clear gap in the market – the need to print advanced composite materials in a simple, secure, and cost-effective way. If ZYYX Pro II users also want to be able to print with simpler materials such as ZYYX PLA, ZYYX ASA, or ZYYX Flex, that’s fine too. The Pro II is a very versatile machine that we are proud to now be able to introduce on the world market!”
