Xuberance's 3D Printed Wedding Dresses Draw Praise in Shanghai

Xuberance, a Shanghai design studio, displayed two unique SLS 3D printed wedding dresses at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing in China from March 12-14.  Steven Ma, Bin Lu, and Leirah Wang founded the company in 2008, and their hard work has paid off. The designs are absolutely incredible.

Xuberance is known around the world for combining emerging technologies and unorthodox materials, resulting this time in an SLS wedding dress.  If you aren’t familiar with the feel of SLS printed clothes and other items, it’s surprisingly soft for what you’d expect from laser-blasted plastic.  SLS dresses, of course, would take quite a while to print.  And these two would cost you about a week of time.

If you go to Xuberance’s online store you can purchase accessories like the 3D printed headpiece above. Be prepared to spend, as that headpiece alone is $5,250.  But they do offer a wide range of other, less costly, but equally intricately designed items, ranging from lamps, lighthouses, and pins to chopsticks, bowties, and napkin holders.

Xuberance also holds workshops and training for people who are interested in learning more about how to design clothes and accessories with 3D printing in mind. The workshops are based in China only and feature a 3D printer I had never heard of, called the XUBERANCE X-1 Series, a dual-extruder FFF machine with a large volume build platform of 30 x 30 x 30cm.  The training introduces people to 3D printing hardware and software, but beyond that, you’d have to go to Bejing and sign up to get more details.
