VoxelDance Additive, a powerful data preparation software for 3D printing

VoxelDance, a Shanghai-based software company, has developed a powerful data preparation software for 3D printing named VoxelDance Additive. Applicable to a number of 3D printing technologies including DLP, SLS, SLA and SLM, this software includes functions such as CAD model import, STL file repair, Smart 2D/3D nesting, and support generation.

As CAD data cannot be used directly for 3D printing, the data must be converted into a file which can be read and processed by the additive manufacturing system. This data preparation process is completed in VoxelDance Additive using smart modules design and optimized algorithms

VoxelDance Additive

The data preparation workflow of VoxelDance begins with the Import Module. The software supports the following file formats to bridge the gap between CAD files and 3D printers: CLI, SLC, STL, 3MF, OBJ, CATPart, IGS, SLDPRT, 3DM, and STEP files. Then, the Repair and Edit Modules enables the creation of water-tight data to achieve optimized 3D printed objects. This is done through the alteration features which controls lattice structures, cutting, wall thickness, holes, and Z compensation in a 3D model.

2D and 3D Nesting & Support

For dental applications, VoxelDance Additive can facilitate numerous smaller teeth/crown models on one platform with an automatic Nesting Module. This faces all of the parts in an upright position, aligning them to the X-axis in order to minimize post-processing efforts. For components made with SLS, the software is able to automatically arrange multiple parts within the printing volume. This is done in a few seconds using a highly optimized algorithm kernel.

Furthermore, multiple support types are available according to the different 3D printing technologies. This comprises of bar support, volume, line, point support and smart support. The user is also able to remain in control of all their parameters.

Smart support and Slicing

As a more advanced generation tool, Smart Support reduces human error, as well as material usage and post-processing. A Slicing and Hatch Module follows in the VoxelDance Additive data preparation workflow which are both enacted with one click. In addition, users of the software can create scan path parameters for their model. Once it is prepared, the CAD file can be exported in multiple formats, such as CLI, SLC, PNG, and SVG.
