Push Puppet Skeleton from i.materialise Scares the Fear of Death Away

Skeletons have always been the funniest thing to me.  Like slipping on a banana peel and breaking your back funny.  They’re meant to scare you for some reason, possibly because they represent your mortality and, thus, the incomprehensibility of life itself, but they’ve been portrayed dancing, wearing sunglasses and smoking cigarettes so often that it’s hard to take them seriously.

Even though the very real prospect of death is bone rattling, i.materialise’s new push puppet, made in preparation for Halloween, perfectly captures the silliness of the human skeleton.  Look at it below; an easy maneuver and the thing collapses in the same way that our fear of death falls apart with a glance at a silly skeleton.

But, with a release of the button, the knowledge that we may, at any moment, die and face the terrifying unknown comes crawling back. I guess that’s what Halloween is all about!
