PrintPal, a Chicago-based AI-powered 3D design platform, has reached 100,000 users just eight months after launching in April 2025. The company says the milestone reflects growing demand for tools that allow users to create 3D models without traditional CAD software or technical training.
Founded by Peter Lebiedzinski, PrintPal enables users to generate 3D models from text descriptions or images. The platform automatically handles model generation, mesh optimization, and print preparation, removing the need for specialist design skills.
According to the company, the platform was developed to address two long-standing barriers in 3D design: technical complexity and cost. Conventional CAD tools often require months of training and expensive licenses, limiting access for students, hobbyists, and non-technical users.
“What’s most exciting about this technology is that it lowers the barrier to entry for 3D creation,” said Lebiedzinski. “When anyone can turn an idea into a model, you create real impact. The 100,000 users are simply a reflection of that.”
AI-driven 3D model generation
At the core of the platform is PrintPal’s AI Design Studio, which allows users to create print-ready 3D models in seconds. Models can be generated from text prompts or images and exported in STL, OBJ, and GLB formats.
To simplify the process further, PrintPal includes beginner-focused presets such as “Cartoonify Yourself,” “Sculptify It,” and “Sketch to 3D.” These presets automatically process and optimize images prior to 3D generation, removing the need for users to understand prompt engineering or image preparation techniques.
Community marketplace and manufacturing services
Beyond design, PrintPal operates a community marketplace where users can share and sell their models. Through a network of printing partners, creators can also offer physical versions of their designs without managing production or fulfillment themselves.

Womp’s system allows users to generate and modify 3D models through an intuitive browser-based interface, focusing on ease of use rather than traditional CAD workflows. The platform integrates AI-driven geometry manipulation with direct links to 3D printing services, aiming to shorten the path from idea to physical object for creators without professional design backgrounds.
Similar accessibility goals have also emerged on the hardware side. Earlier in the year, Generative Machine introduced an AI-generated, open-source 5-axis FFF desktop 3D printer. The project used generative design tools to develop a non-traditional machine architecture, demonstrating how AI can influence not only digital models but also the design of manufacturing systems themselves.
These developments point to a growing trend in which AI is used to abstract technical complexity away from users. By automating design decisions, optimization steps, and manufacturing preparation, these platforms aim to expand participation in 3D printing beyond trained engineers and CAD specialists.
