The additive manufacturing research funding was first announced in November 2017. At the time Praxair VP Dean Hackett explained that, “as a leading supplier of metal powder for additive manufacturing, we want to invest more in technology development to help grow the next generation of engineers.”
Andy Shives, business manager for Additive Manufacturing at PST said, “Today we are pleased to announce the winners of the TruForm™ AMbition Grant. There were so many excellent applicants, we’re thrilled to announce more than five recipients.”
The following North American universities will receive the Praxair grant:

The projects funded use range of industrial 3D printing processes. These include laser powder bed fusion (PBF), directed energy deposition (DED) and also binder jetting. Praxair intends to work with the recipients of the AMbition grant on topics including the analysis of microstructures and also advancing process parameters for metal additive systems. The academic teams will also investigate the properties of 3D printed components fabricated from a range of Praxair’s metal alloy portfolio.
Praxair TruForm metal powders are made using the gas atomization process and available in cobalt, iron, nickel, and titanium.
