Peak Sport presents sneakers using 3D printing beyond the midsole

Peak Sport, a Chinese sportswear company, has released a new pair of 3D printed sneakers. Part of the Future Fusion Peak3D brand, the sneakers feature 3D printed soles as well as upper and quarter sections. They are made from TPU material, 3D printed using both SLS and FDM/FFF additive manufacturing technology.

As reported by Nanjixiong, 600 pairs of the sneakers, priced at ¥1299 ($189 USD), sold out moments after release.

Circulating online since release on July 5th, the Future Fusion Peak3D sneakers feature 3D printing across a large portion of the shoe – a significant change from those made exclusively with a 3D printed insole or midsole.

Traditionally, the production of uppers involves the cutting of mesh fabrics, however woven 3D printed fabric was passed through a loom for a light, breathable, and environmentally friendly surface. Peak Sport is reportedly using bespoke 3D printers to manufacture the footwear.

One of the company’s 3D printing partners is startup company Z-Sharp 3D Technology, which recently invested approximately USD $3 million into a new TPU 3D printing facility in Wuhu.

3D printed sneakers

In 2018, Peak Sport announced the production of the world’s first volleyball shoes made using 3D printing. These sneakers, which leveraged SLS for themidsoles, were introduced by Xu Zhihua, CEO of Peak Sport, and Olympic volleyball team member, Ding Xia. Prior to this, the company also released a pair of sneakers integrating SLS 3D printed midsoles. Upon its launch, Xu Zhihua, general manager of Peak Sport, commented, “The future sneakers are the newest achievement brought by Peak Sport’s innovative strategy.”

“Our target is to build Peak Sport into the most international, professional and innovative sports brand in China.”
