New From Autodesk — ReCap — Creating 3D Data from Photos & Scans

Autodesk has announced a new, free 3D software product: ReCap, which will allow users to create intelligent 3D data from photos and scans. ReCap is set to deliver powerful and easy to use workflow on the desktop and in the cloud to create intelligent 3D models from laser scans and captured photos there by eliminating the need to start from a blank sheet — or the proverbial back of an envelope!

It is envisaged that designers, makers, architect or engineers can begin with raw scan data from existing environments and subsequently add, modify, validate and document their design process

According to the company, Autodesk ReCap Studio can be seamlessly integrated with Autodesk Design and Creation suites and makes it easy to clean, organize and visualize massive datasets captured from reality. Autodesk ReCap Photo on the other hand, permits users to create high-resolution textured 3D models from photos using the power of cloud computing.

ReCap Studio is available immediately and can be downloaded here.

Autodesk ReCap Photo will be available April 12, 2013.
