Chinese 3D printer manufacturer Bambu Lab has finally revealed the A2L, an open-frame large-format 3D printer with a 330 x 320 x 325 mm build volume. The machine adds hands-free leveling and offset adjustment, multi-color printing, blade cutting, pen plotting, and indoor air quality certification to the company’s open-frame printer range. A2L provides 105% more build volume than the 256 mm class, supporting larger single-piece prints such as a full-scale helmet or batch production of up to 40 fidget toys in one run. The printer has a 544 x 529 x 505 mm footprint and a 12.8 kg net weight. Its chassis combines aluminum and steel, with a plastic outer frame.
The reveal confirms several points that shaped community discussion after Bambu Lab’s teaser page went live last week. The “Creative Playground. Extra Large” tagline now maps directly to the 330 x 320 x 325 mm build volume, while speculation around craft-style cutting and drawing tools is reflected in the A2L’s modular blade and pen support. Other possibilities discussed before launch, including laser support and dual-nozzle or multi-toolhead hardware, are not part of the final specification.

The toolhead uses a hardened steel extruder gear, stainless steel nozzle, built-in filament cutter, and 1.75 mm filament. Supported nozzle diameters include 0.2 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.8 mm. Maximum nozzle temperature reaches 300°C. The heatbed reaches 80°C and ships with a flexible steel build plate and textured PEI plate. Supported build plate options include the textured PEI plate, Engineering Plate, and Cool Plate SuperTack.
Bambu Lab identifies the 80°C heatbed limit as a design choice linked to the A2L’s open-frame construction, larger heated surface area, and use with non-engineering filaments such as PLA and PETG. Maintaining higher temperatures across the larger bed would increase power demand, with the product FAQ citing home electrical circuit limits as part of the decision.

Several hardware and software changes separate the new system from the A1 series. A PMSM closed-loop servo extruder monitors extrusion behavior during printing. Adaptive Vibration Compensation uses multi-point calibration and load-adapting control to reduce ghosting and ringing on large or tall models. Two granular dampers inside the frame provide physical resonance suppression.
Flow Dynamics Calibration runs before each print, measuring filament flow through the current nozzle and spool before building a nonlinear model of the extrusion path. Detection features include filament run-out, tangled spool, air printing, nozzle clogging, and nozzle clumping detection through a dedicated physical switch.

Modular Tool Support and Multi-Color Printing
A2L includes a modular mounting point for blade cutting and pen drawing. The Blade Cutting Upgrade Kit includes the cutting module, pen module, dedicated cutting mat, and related accessories. Supported cutting materials include stickers, leather, fabric, and paper.
The printer does not support laser modules because of its open-frame design. It also does not include the BirdsEye camera used on H2 series laser models, so fully automatic Live Spatial Alignment is not available. Smartphone-assisted alignment is supported through Bambu Handy. Print-then-Cut remains under development for a possible future OTA firmware update.

Multi-color configurations can reach up to 19 colors by connecting up to four box-style material units and one AMS lite in series. Connecting box-style hardware occupies one buffer path, making one AMS lite slot unavailable. The second-generation units also add enclosed storage and filament drying, although AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT drying functions require an external independent power source when used with the A2L.
The A2L Combo includes AMS lite, while the base version includes the printer, toolbox, build plate, and spool holder. A high-resolution touchscreen, Bambu Cloud connectivity, LAN-only mode, and MakerWorld access to more than 2 million models are also included. Noise levels are listed below 49 dB in Silent Mode and approximately 52 dB at peak in Standard Mode, based on internal testing.

UL 2904 GREENGUARD certification applies to 3D printing indoor air quality when the printer is used with specified official filaments, including Bambu PLA Basic, PLA Pure, and PETG Basic. Cybersecurity compliance is listed under EU RED Article 3.3(d)(e) and ETSI EN 303 645 V2.1.1:2020.
Shipping and Pricing
Pricing starts at $469 for the A2L and $569 for the A2L Combo on Bambu Lab’s online store. The product page lists free shipping, with US orders shipping from the company’s US warehouse within one to three business days after processing. Add-on products listed with the launch include the Mag-Alloy Scraper, Cutting Material Kit Starter Pack, CyberBrick Hardware Kit, and optional filament bundles. Installment payment options are also listed through Klarna.
