Joe Kennedy III joins 6K’s Board of Directors

Kicking things off, 3D printing materials producer 6K has added former Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy III to its Board of Directors. During his time as a representative in the U.S. congress, Kennedy was an outspoken supporter of climate action, the development of clean energy, and local manufacturing policies.

This is all in line with 6K’s promise to advance sustainable materials production via its proprietary UniMelt system. According to 6K, the device is the world’s first industrial microwave plasma platform for the production of metal 3D printing powders, and is characterized by its relatively low energy consumption. The company believes UniMelt is a “tangible representation” of Kennedy’s clean energy beliefs, which he is now set to push as a board member.

Dr. Aaron Bent, CEO of 6K, explains, “We are delighted to have the Congressman join our Board of Directors. Joe’s stance on clean energy and the development of green manufacturing technologies is well documented and intersects perfectly with 6K’s mission to deliver high-performance advanced materials that are radically greener than legacy production technologies.”

Xometry appoints George Hornig as Chairman

On-demand additive manufacturing marketplace Xometry has appointed George Hornig as the company’s very first Chairman of the Board. Hornig has served on Xometry’s Board of Directors for the past eight years, since the company was founded back in 2013.

Having previously held a number of senior executive positions at large financial institutions over a career spanning four decades, he currently also serves as Chairman of The Seed Lab, a startup venture capital fund. Hornig is also Co-Chairman of blank check company Healthwell Acquisition Corp.

“I am looking forward to serving as Chairman of Xometry,” said Hornig. “It is the capstone of my career to help Xometry grow from inception to the unique custom, on demand manufacturing platform it is today. Given the $260 billion size of the addressable global market, Xometry has a tremendous opportunity to continue its growth, including the introduction of additional services like cash flow financing and supplies.”
