3D model sharing platform MyMiniFactory has launched a new feature to make it even easier for people to 3D print objects.
With “Click & Print” functionality, site visitors can now directly generate a GCODE for 8,000 objects in the site’s collection, with plans to rollout the feature over all 30,000 in the future.
Access to world heritage
The 8,000 objects available for Click & Print are part of the Scan the World project led by Jonathan Beck. In addition to giving easier access to the collections of over 40 leading art institutions around the world, Click & Print fuels MyMiniFactory’s vision of a future where “everyone is able to 3D print, with no learning curve whatsoever.”
Some of Scan the World’s most popular pieces include the Louvre’s famed Venus di Milo, the Bust of Nerfertiti, as used by artists Nikolai Nelles and Nora Al-Badri, and Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.
Guaranteed 3D printable
Click & Print is possible on MyMiniFactory as the site’s unique curation process means that any file uploaded to the site is validated for 3D printability. In-built slicing features don’t encounter broken files, which would typically lead to failures.
To activate the facility from any the 3D models, users need only click “print preview for STARTT” where they will see a quick render of what the printed object will look like with support.” After this, a “Download GCODE” button appears, allowing the model to be sent directly to the 3D printer.
The plan for the future is to add compatibility for more 3D printers. To this end, MyMiniFactory is looking for manufacturers to help integrate their machines into the site.
