Adafruit and Makerbot have teamed up to bring the makers and prosumers of the world a limited edition of the Replicator 2 3D printer — which includes a MakerBot + Adafruit build plate and a 3d printing for electronics pack!
According to Adafruit: “The talented members of the Adafruit community are exploring 3D printed solutions for their inventions, electronics enclosures, mounting hardware and artwork, so we have bundled a MakerBot Replicator 2™ desktop 3D printer with three of our more popular DIY electronics projects. After you’ve built your kits use your new MakerBot to print out the kit enclosures!”
So, for an additional premium of just under $100 (in addition to the standard Rep2 price of $2199) what you will get with this limited edition is the Adafruit 3D printing for electronics pack, which contains a MintyBoost Kit – V3.0, a Raspberry Pi Model B with 512MB RAM, and a TIMESQUARE DIY Watch Kit – Red Display Matrix.
The MintyBoost Kit – V3.0, according to Adafruit, is the world’s first and only open-source hardware charger, allowing makers to produce their own battery-pack and recharger for ipods, iphones etc! It’s inclusion in this bundle will enable you to print your own Rolling MintyBoost Enclosure V2.
The Raspberry Pi, for anyone that is as yet unaware, is a low-cost, single-board, credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It has been developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools. Within this bundle the intention is for you to print your own Pi Command Center!
The TIMESQUARE DIY Watch Kit – Red Display Matrix is a DIY watch that reportedly looks good and works! With the limited edition Rep 2 you can print your own Timesquare Watch Body. For this one, makers can find full intructions at the Adafruit learning system.
