Japanese Valentine’s 3D Printed Chocolate

Valentine’s Day is approaching and can produce an unnerving sweatiness and loss of hair for many of us – comparable with the peaking stress levels typically witnessed around Christmas time. In Japan, Valentine pressure is mostly a burden for women – they are more or less expected to buy chocolate for their current or soon-to-be boyfriend (candidates). This Valentine’s day, however, there is a new option to differentiate and personalize the sweets for one’s sweetheart with sweet technology.

Valentine's chocolates

FabCafé, located in Shibuya, is organizing a workshop next month where the participants are able to 3D scan & print their own facial features – in chocolate. The workshop is over two days and offers quite amazing bang for your buck – for a mere 6000JPY (approx. $66USD) you get the technical lessons and of course the chocolaty cordials to bring joy to that special person on the day.

The project has been such a success that the workshop is no longer taking new registrations. So, if you’re a woman residing in Japan, stressing over the upcoming fest, you can only hope for some tutorial leaks or just patiently wait for next year – which based on the success of this FabCafé concept is bound to bring more events like this to the masses.
