This weekend we wanted to focus on the many hobbyists that wish to build their own 3D printer. We selected a video made by a US based hobbyist who constructed the Prusa Mendel machine from start to finish together with his family members. The video is speeded up to keep it short and it gives you a snapshot on how to go about building your own.
It is worth while reading the info pages at http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel before getting your toolkit out. The site has also also a PDF (manual-wiki) with backup documentation from reprap.org. The Prusa Mendel 2 is a new iteration from the original iteration one that was released last year, with significant improvements including more push-fit parts and changes to the belt to mention few.
You can also check out the the Github repository for the iteration 2, where you can get all the STL files you need in order to make the printer in addition the non-printed parts that you can find here.
Let us know how you get on with yours!
