Free 3D Printable(s) of the Week: Super Mario, Slovakian Castle Double Feature

The Free 3D Printable of the Week this week was a tough one for me to decide.  It was a toss up between two very distinct, but awesome, 3D models (both suggested to me by Sketchfab’s Louis Bidou).  On the one hand, Nintendo has just announced that its games will be available on mobile devices – a huge deal, given the game company’s historic resistance to such an idea.  So, to commemorate the momentous news and a future of mobile app addiction, I was leaning towards this 3D printable Mario from Sketchfab user jhmarioman:

But Louis also sent me this beautiful digital replica of Hrušov Castle in Slovakia.  Even though the model’s creator, R0m1R, claims that the quality is “medium”, the 3D printable model seems pretty detailed to me.

The castle, built in the 13th Century and destroyed by the Imperial Army in 1708, was captured by Miloš Lukáč through the use of a UAV. With the 69 pictures captured by the drone, R0m1R was able to recreate it digitally, with the entire process only taking about four hours.

Now, you can 3D print your very own castle for your very own Mario to go stomping around on Goombas.
