First look at IN(3D)USTRY additive manufacturing hub Barcelona 2017

3D Printing Industry is in Barcelona this week covering the IN(3D)USTRY From Needs to Solutions Additive and Advanced Manufacturing Global Hub 2017.

Taking to the Fira Barcelona conference center are 1,000 companies and 850 speakers from accross the industry including the European Space Agency (ESA), Local Motors, Airbus, the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), adidas, and award winning software developers Autodesk.

Here we have a preview of some of the key exhibits to expect at this year’s conference. To follow our full coverage of the event closely, make sure you sign up to our newsletter and catch us on Twitter.

Architecture and automotive

Barcelona’s native IaaC, interviewed for 3D Printing Industry in December 2016, will undoubtedly be exhibiting details of its 3D printed bridge made in collaboration with ACCIONA, co-exhibitors at the event.

It will also be interesting to see any developments of its Terra Perfroma and On Site Robotics projects, focused on the use of robotic arms to make structures from site specific materials.

There are many key automotive players also at the conference, many of which are typically quiet about their additive applications. So we will be hoping for some end-use insight from SEAT and Renault that are running automotive OEM panels.

Sustainable materials and space exploration

Speakers at the conference include Berta Gonzalvo Research Director at AITIIP Technological Centre that is running recycled filament project BARBARA and Jonathan Meyer, HO of Additive Manufacturing at Airbus Group Innovations. I will also be speaking directly with Dr. Advenit Makaya, Advanced Manufacturing Engineer in Materials and Processes at the ESA, who will be speaking on a panel for aeronautics, and Carlo Iacovini Marketing Director at Local Motors, that recently started trials of the autonomous Olli 3D printed bus.
