Energica back on track for MotoE World Cup thanks to CRP Group

Italian electric motorbike manufacturer Energica, is back on course to participate in the inaugural 2019 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup which will begin in July this year.

In March, the MotoE World Cup suffered a setback when all the eighteen bikes taking part in the event, including the Energica’s Ego Corsa, were destroyed by a fire in Jerez – the city in Spain where the bikes were stored. Thanks to a helping hand from CRP Group subsidiaries, 3D printing materials manufacturer CRP Technology and manufacturing service provider CRP MeccanicaEnergica is now ready to take part in the Cup.

Franco Cevolini CEO of CRP Meccanica and CRP Technology, commented, “On the day after the fire in Jerez, it was clearly known that a special effort had to be made: now, as Energica’s technological partners, I can very proudly say that we did it!”

CRP Technology Windform materials

Headquartered in Modena, Energica is a subsidiary of the CRP Group, which includes, CRP Technology, CRP Meccanica, and CRP USA. Energica manufactures 100% electric motorbikes which are partly 3D printed using CRP Technology’s proprietary material Windform.

Used in automotive, aerospace and medical application, Windform can be 3D printed and CNC machined. Since its first release, CRP has added to the range of Windform materials which now includes the P-LINE range for High Speed Sintering.

In addition to R&D and material manufacturing, CRP Technology and CRP Meccanica also provide machining services such as CNC machining and 3D printing. At its Rapid Prototyping Department, CRP Technology utilizes twenty-five industrial 3D printers from 3D Systems and Ricoh among other manufacturers.

Recovering from fire

So far bike manufacturer Energica has released four models: the Eva, Ego, EsseEsse9, and Ego Corsa.

In the upcoming FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, Energica is taking part with Ego Corsa motorbikes. After the fire, the partners were challenged with re-building the bikes in just two months. Succeeding in this feat Cevolini called it “a true miracle.”

“Since the early hours following the unfortunate event,” Cevolini added, “CRP Meccanica and CRP Technology sided with Energica to support them in facing their challenge.”

“The experience gained in 50 years of activity serving the most advanced sectors, has allowed us to address the situation in the most proper and efficient way.”

Bike enthusiasts can see the Ego Corsa in Sachsenring where the first race will take place between 5-7 July.
