Munich headquartered startup DyeMansion has raised  $5 million in Series A funding for its 3D printing post-processing technology. The funding came from Unternehmertum Venture Capital (UVC Partners), btov Partners and AM Ventures. DyeMansion plans to use the money to expand its business and further research & development efforts.

Improve post-processing technology

Founded in 2015, DyeMansion specializes in post-processing technology for SLS 3D printed products. By using a 3 step method, known as ‘Print-to-Product’, DyeMansion cleans, finishes and colors 3D printed parts using a shot-peening process.

The company’s existing partners include BMW, Daimler, Under Armour, HP, and Shapeways, that offers DyeMansion finishing as an option for SLS 3D printed products. Since 2015, leading German 3D printer provider EOS, that shares a founder with AM Ventures, has also been an investor of the company.

With regards to the company’s most recent funding round, Philipp Kramer, CTO and co-founder of DyeMansion stated, “Thanks to our customers and partners we have learned a lot about the demand for the digital factory of the future. Our new system for getting completely smooth surfaces on AM plastics will demonstrate DyeMansion’s capabilities once again.”

Investing in post-processing

As a time-consuming and labor-intensive task, post processing has become a lucrative area for innovation in 3D printing.

In 2017, New York’s PostProcess Technologies received $4 million in seed round funding to  develop an automated post processing solution. In the same year, Additive Manufacturing Technologies Ltd. received a £624,000 grant from government-backed accelerator Innovate UK, for its post-processing method for 3D printed parts. And, most recently, the UK based Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), revealed its latest project, FlexiFinish, which provides automated AM post-processing for metallic components.

Felix Ewald, DyeMansion’s CEO and co-founder stated, “With AM Ventures and our new investors, we have found the right people and expertise to accelerate our global roll out and to develop more technologies and industry 4.0 solutions. To have such experienced partners on board will help a lot along this journey.”
