What is the secret to flawless 3D prints? Layer height? Post-processing? With Premium PLA from Czech filament manufacturer Fillamentum it’s all about the material.
The glitter content of its premium PLA Extrafill range, e.g. Vertigo Grey, Vertigo Galaxy, Rapunzel Silver, Noble Blue, Pearl Ruby Red, gives an as-printed quality to objects made using FFF/FDM techniques that is otherwise unmatchable with standard PLA.
A treasure trove of filaments
A favourite of the maker community, Fillamentum’s premium glitter PLA range has been used to make spare parts and household items, props, toys, and even dragon scales.
Currently, there are 10 different types of glitter PLA available, each in a different pearlescent color; Pearl Violet, Pearl Green, Pearl Night Blue, Noble Blu, Pearl Ruby Red, Gold Happens, Rapunzel Silver, Vertigo Galaxy, Everybody’s Magenta and Vertigo Grey.
Each spool carries 750g of filament, has a diameter tolerance of +/- 0,05 mm, and a recommended working temperature of 190 – 210 °C.
Who is the fairest filament of them all?
Vertigo Grey is the Fillamentum’s best selling Premium Extrafill PLA and is still a favourite of makers across YouTube over a year after its release.
Reviewed on the 3DPrintingTips! channel, Vertigo Grey is dubbed “one of the most beautiful filaments you can get.”
The material impresses in overall quality through series of test 3D prints including the classic 3D Benchy, the Chromatic Quantum Vase by @MakeAnything and amaochan’s Save Pangolins model.
Commenting on the articulated Pangolin print, 3DPrintingTips!, says “The overhangs are great, the layer lines are quite invisible, even at a 0.2 mm layer height and obviously it is fully functional.”
“Flawless” results
Vertigo Galaxy is the latest in the FIllamentum Extrafill range. Like its namesake Vertigo Grey, it is dark in color and infused with glitter particles. However, instead of the grey coloring, Vertigo Galaxy is described as olive green in color, with gold flecks of glitter.
In a filament guide of Vertigo Galaxy for 3D Maker Noob (3DMN), Joe comments, “True to form with every Vertigo filament that I have printed with so far, the layers lay down absolutely beautiful. They blend really nicely together, and it’s extremely easy to use this filament.”
In one of the test prints, Joe calls the as-printed finish “almost flawless.”
Fillamentum PLA Extrafill materials, Vertigo Grey, Vertigo Galaxy and more are available to buy here for €26.50. Samples of a selection of the glittery Extrafill PLA are also available from Global SFD – give it a try here.
