Boeing signs $1 billion contract with Dassault Systèmes for 3DEXPERIENCE software

French 3D software company Dassault Systèmes has announced the signing of an extensive new contract with aerospace company Boeing.

The agreement is primarily concerned with Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE software platform and is hoped to provide a digital edge over competitors Airbus.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, the contract is worth $1 billion over a period of thirty years.

With the software, Boeing will “rely on Winning Program, Co-Design to Target, Ready for Rate, Build to Operate and License to Fly industry solution experiences for aerospace and defense” to improve operations across the company.

Digital transformation

Boeing’s Ted Colbert, CIO and SVP of Information Technology & Data Analytics, explains the motivation behind the agreement. As he says,

“The decision to adopt Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a key milestone in our digital transformation.”

The North American aerospace company has certainly been keen to implement digital manufacturing processes and revealed recently that 3D printing has now become a standard for its satellite production processes.

Colbert went on to say, “this digital enabler provides global design and manufacturing capabilities that will fuel our second century. The value of this extended strategic partnership is a mutual desire to transform how Boeing connects, protects, explores and inspires the world.”

Boeing has also been at the forefront of implementing 3D printing in its aircraft through a partnership with Norsk Titanium.

“Shattering another industry paradigm”

Boeing already had a partnership with Dassault Systèmes but will now expand its commercial aviation, space and defense programs with the software platform.

And Bernard Charlès, Vice Chairman and CEO at Dassault Systèmes, explains how proud the company is “to collaborate with Boeing as it embarks on another century of innovation with a partner it trusts. Boeing not only leads the way in its own industry, but influences the progress of all industries across modern society.”

Referring to the exchange of virtual and real data with 3DEXPERIENCE, Charlès says,

“We are at the turning point of the industrial era, where we are shattering another industry paradigm.”

Boeing will incorporate the software platform in its activities across the globe. The company’s main production factories are in the United States where Dassault Systèmes recently expanded its 3DEXPERIENCE lab.

The company has also recently opened a new 3DEXPERIENCE Center at Wichita State University as it continues its reach in the U.S.
