Azavy – Another New 3D Printing Marketplace

Azavy is the latest newcomer in the ever more occupied field of 3D Printing Amazons – i.e. common grounds and marketplaces for unleashing the designer within and hooking the aspiring artists up with their potential customer segments. The business model used by Azavy is kind of familiar – compensation goes to the designer once the buyer has checked out (and paid) for the 3D model file(s) in their basket.

Azavy uses the word decentralized – which in this case is one of the more challenging aspects: as the penetration of 3D printers is not yet on a level enabling true decentralization and the tweakable settings and setups of different users have a significant effect on the outcome, the quality issues and the responsibility of the platform provider will likely be something to be debated as the wave of new companies in this area likely increases further. Especially when the hardware market starts to reach less and less tech-savvy users in addition to the makers and early adopters.

The project is not fully live yet – which again has a ring of familiarity about it — the site is currently limited to the sign up process, which will ensure notification of things to come, as well as a video pitch. The clip – which you can watch below – utilises a more apparent tongue in cheek tone compared with the majority of similar start-ups we’ve seen so far.

I have to admit that I do like the positive, upbeat attitude that these young people behind Azavy seem to have – as opposed to  some of the often unnecessarily serious mentality that is too often connected to the framework of something primarily deemed distant – tech. Let’s hope that this PMA will also translate to the actual marketplace after the service is fully launched.
