The Autodesk Ember 3D Printer in Action

One of last year’s most exciting developments was the announcement of the Ember 3D printer from Autodesk.  While some apply for and await acceptance into the Ember™ Explorer Program to get their hands on the $5995 DLP 3D printer, some of us are excited by even the faintest glimpses of the machine in action.  So, for your New Year delight, here is a time lapse of the Ember in action.

Ooh! Aah! The Spark logo printed above was designed in 3D by Keith Chamberlain and Shalom Ormsby, according to YouTube user Matt Hova. Hova explains that the print was made with 25 micron layer thickness and took about four hours to create.

More information about the Ember 3D printer, running on Autodesk’s Spark 3D printing platform, has begun to be released by the software-turned-printer manufacturer. The machine is capable of resolutions as fine as 50 microns on the X and Y axes and between 10 and 100 microns on the Z axis, at speeds of 15mm/hour at 25 micron layer height. The build volume of Ember is 64mm x 40mm x 134mm (2.5″ x 1.6″ x 5.3″). We’ll learn more as the printer approaches its ship date in early spring of this year.
