ASTM International invites presentations for ICAM 2021

Standards developer ASTM International is inviting presentations for its International Conference on Additive Manufacturing (ICAM) 2021, set to take place November 1-5.

Hosted by ASTM’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE), the ICAM is the organization’s sixth annual flagship event centered around standardization, qualification, and certification. The conference focuses on requirements that are sector-specific, and which address the complete 3D printing process chain.

ICAM 2021

This year’s event will feature a greater number of ASTM committees and external stakeholders as it brings together experts in additive manufacturing from across the globe. There will be emphasis on the transition of research to application within the 3D printing field, with more than 25 symposia (academic discussions) taking place during the conference.

ICAM 2021 is organized by over a hundred scientific organizing committee members who are all additive manufacturing experts from a range of industries, academia, government and regulatory agencies, and national laboratories.

At the conference, the recipients of three 2021 ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Awards of Excellence in Education, Research and Standardization will be revealed, while a nod will be given to the implementation of the Student Presentation Competition and Young Professional in Additive Manufacturing awards.

ASTM is calling for industry, academia and government agency professionals within the 3D printing community to address the need for industry standards, design principles, and qualification and certification challenges during the conference. Materials of interest include metals, polymers, composites, and ceramics.

Standardization and certification in 3D printing

In 2018, ASTM announced its first round of funding to help support the development of standards for the additive manufacturing industry, and has since continued to fund the research into technical standardization for the 3D printing sector. The organization  recently launched its third round of funding to support eight research projects encouraging standardization within additive manufacturing.

Through AM CoE, ASTM has worked to develop standards for facility safety management, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), and directed energy deposition (DED) 3D printing technologies. The organization has also partnered with leading technical service corporation TÜV SÜD to develop programs to accelerate the adoption of 3D printing technologies.
