3D printing and 3D scanning at 3D Web Fest

Those looking for a 3D printing element to the 3D Web Fest will find several.

One artist at the event, Marpi, turned his 2016 piece into an installation in LA and then 3D printed it. As he says, “Everything created during the art event is constantly saved as detailed 3D models. After the show all of them become available online to download, remix and 3D print.” Marpi is performing a 3D and sound piece this year that will also be available as 3D printable files afterwards.

There will also be a ModBod 3D scanning booth at the event. ModBod 3D is a project from the CODAME Labs. To date the project has captured more than 500+ 3D model bodies that are on exhibit at the CODAME SketchFab Gallery. Scans are downloadable under a Creative Commons license.

3D Web Fest takes place on Friday 30 June at Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, in  San Francisco, CA. More information is available on this Facebook event page.
