3D Printing at SOLIDWORKS World 2018, new products and exclusive discounts

SOLIDWORKS World 2018 is the 20th anniversary of what software developer Dassault Systèmes describes as the 3D design event of the year.

Having attended many Dassault Systèmes events, including the launch of SOLIDWORKS 2018 and Design in the Age of Experience during Milan’s Design Week, SOLIDWORKS World 2018 is expected to continue the high standard of event production.

Over the course of 3 days more than 5,000 attendees will hear from experts in 3D CAD and simulation, electrical design and schematics, communications, collaboration, and data management.

The 3D printing industry will be represented by companies including HP, 3D Systems, Proto Labs, Stratasys, Desktop Metal, Sindoh, 3D Platform, BigRep, Formlabs, Markforged, Rize, Roland, Ultimaker, and Xometry.

Other partners for the event include 3D scanning enterprises Creaform and Faro and 3D design companies including Wacom and the creators of the SpaceMouse – 3Dconnexion.

Additive Manufacturing Symposium at SOLIDWORKS World 2018

Mark Rushton, SOLIDWORKS Product Portfolio Manager, tells 3D Printing Industry that attendees should also expect, “some new product announcements happening in this symposium too, so it should be an exciting day.”

Rushton will be moderating the Additive Manufacturing Symposium on Monday, February 5th , the first day of SOLIDWORKS World 2018.

He says, “The Additive Manufacturing Symposium kicks off at 10.30am after the first day’s general session. In this first 90-minute session SOLIDWORKS Product Management will be covering a number of the initiatives that have been worked on in this area, including some new functionality and new partnerships to advance the technology and the industry.”

Speakers include Roy Sterenthal, VP Software Products at 3D Systems and Jonah Myerberg, CTO at Desktop Metal.

The second session looks at Design for Additive Manufacturing and the Future of 3D Printing. Terry Wohlers of Wohlers Associates and Tim Simpson of Penn State University. “Wohlers is the leading analyst and consultant in AM, and has served as the voice of the industry for more than two decades. Simpson is the Paul Morrow Professor in Engineering and Manufacturing and one of the leading experts in AM technology and the design of 3D-printed metal parts,” says Rushton.

The third session will see Greg Paulsen from Xometry discuss the thought process of designing a custom part and how to take a decision about whether additive or subtractive methods should be used. Vivek Govekar from HCL Technologies will be discussing how additive and subtractive manufacturing can be used together.
