3D Printing News Sliced: SHINING 3D, BeAM, Lulzbot, Stratasys, Koffin

The last Sliced 3D printing news digest of the week, today we feature, a story that brings new meaning for 3D printing a cradle to grave file; new business partnerships from Nano Dimension, EOS, and Authentise; a $9 million research fund; and other additive manufacturing applications, research and hardware releases.

Latest business partnerships

Process automation software provider Authentise has announced a partnership with Israel’s Prosper3D, an automated quoting platform for additive manufacturing service bureaus. In the agreement, Authentise Additive Accelerator customers will be given seamless access Prosper3D quoting engines.

U.S. based 3D software company and reseller GoEngineer has become an official channel partner for Israeli PCB 3D printer provider Nano Dimension. Recently, GoEngineer also entered into an agreement with advanced manufacturer FATHOM.

Manufacturing services provider Visser Precision, based in Denver, Colorado, has just confirmed an order of three EOS M 400-4 and two, newly-released, M 300-4 systems.

At the recent Formula 1 Pirelli 2018 United States Grand Prix, metal additive manufacturing service provider 3rd Dimension Industrial 3D Printing confirmed its first order of an Additive Industries MetalFAB1 system.

And Aleph Objects, Inc., producer of Lulzbot brand desktop 3D printers, has been named one of six new Alliance Partners of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). Founded in 2015, the purpose of the NCDMM is to deliver advanced manufacturing solutions to the defense industry.  Ralph Resnick, President and CEO of the NCDMM (and founding director of America Makes) comments:

“By leveraging our vast Alliance Partner network, we are able to rely on these cultivated and trusted relationships to assemble multidisciplinary teams that work together to develop the best solution.”

Art, aero-engines and afterlife

Beast of the Anthropocene is the latest art project incorporating 3D printing by Dov Ganchrow, product designer and senior lecturer at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. A series of cow skulls manipulated into surreal shapes, Ganchrow’s work is part of Stratasys‘ “New Ancient” collection that previously showcased the work of Neri Oxman.

Additive manufacturing has reportedly been used to  optimize the weight of GE‘s supersonic business jet engine Affinity. The initial design phase of the engine was recently completed and its first flight is expected in 2023.

And Liverpool startup Koffin is looking to raise £50,000 on Kickstarter to launch its custom-made, 3D printed, biodegradable coffin business…

3D printing for humanitarian challenges 

Antibacterial 3D printer materials developer Copper3D has been invited to work on Health, Innovation and Industry challenges set by the Unreasonable Group, a business investment firm that specializes in targeting “the world’s toughest challenges.” In the first step of this process, Copper3D is to take part in the 3018 Unreasonable Group summit from November 7 through 12.

In India, Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) are seeking to commercialize a construction 3D printer for building houses and toilets for the Swachh Bharat mission.

BeAM and Empa launch research, Yissum allocate $9 million development fund

In research, BeAM, the DED 3D printer manufacturer company recently acquired by AddUp, has signed an agreement with Empa the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. Together, BeAM and Empa will seek new applications for DED technology.

And Yissum Research Development Company, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has footed $9 million for nanotech innovations with a focus on quantum science, renewable energy and 3D printing.

New 3D printer availability 

An upcoming ‘Special Buys’ sale at Aldi in Australia will feature a Cocoon Create 3D printer for $211 USD. The German supermarket chain previously ran a sale of the Cocoon Create 3D printer for $499 USD, over double the price.

The AccuFab-D1 DLP 3D printer has made it as the latest release from Chinese 3D technology company SHINING 3D. A compact system measuring 394 x 406 x 755mm the AccuFab-D1 is designed for use in dental laboratories.
