3D Printed Flightgeist — Possibly Not for Coffee Drinkers On The Go

As brands go, the Dutch street fashion house, Guy Vernes is one that aspires to creating something special. The company’s remit is one of exclusivity based on intellectual creativity and describes itself as “an indy label that remains close to the dynamics of the streets … [differentiating] itself by a trademark aesthetic and a thought-out, narrative product line setting the tone for a different kind of adventure.”

Now, I am aware that some people do get excited by their coffee experience, although for me personally, it’s more usually a rushed gulp here and there providing a much-needed shot of caffeine in the morning to jump-start my day. That said, I do like the ‘idea’ of having the opportunity to savour it more. It’s just that the realities of life tend to be prohibitive in that regard.

However, with the Flightgeist, it is the experience of enjoying and savouring coffee that Guy Vernes is going for, as far as I can tell. Part of Guy Vernes accessories line, the Flightgeist is intended to accommodate “a small personal trip to some wondrous place we all love and share” via coffee — whether it’s a morning ritual with toast and a newspaper or an afternoon in-between shot from the café around the corner.

The Flightgesit is a 60 ml coffee vessel, which Guy Verne says allows coffee drinkers to “take off for a unique moment of pleasure. You’ll know when you’re about to land, cup almost empty and spirit revived, when you see the small mahogany cloud at the bottom of your cup.” The series has been designed by Andries van Overbeeke, and each espresso cup is individually produced using 3D printing technology, fulfilled by Shapeways, using ceramic materials that are reportedly completely watertight.

It is a quite beautiful thing, and fits the exclusivity of the Guy Vernes brand, each cup is available for € 45.00 (excluding shipping). It just depends how and where coffee fits in to your life, I guess, as to whether this is for you.
