PostProcess launches DEMI 910 resin removal system for Carbon 3D printers

Automated post-processing system manufacturer PostProcess Technologies has released its new DEMI 910 full-stack resin removal system specifically for 3D printer OEM Carbon’s L1 and M1 3D printers.

The DEMI 910 leverages PostProcess’ Submersed Vortex Cavitation (SVC) technology to improve efficiences for Carbon’s machines, and features a detergent specifically engineered for Carbon to optimize part quality, improve safety, and increase throughput for the firm’s resin post-processing.

“The DEMI 910 has been developed to help Carbon customers scale by finishing as many printed parts as possible at never-before-seen rates,” said Rich Caplow, PostProcess Technologies VP of Product.

“The fact that industry leaders like Carbon have already recognized the necessity of automated post-processing proves just how crucial this technology is to further scalability and throughput for the entire additive industry.”

PostProcess and Carbon’s partnership

The two companies first announced their partnership to extend resin removal to Carbon’s digital light synthesis (DLS) technology earlier this month, in a deal that has now seen PostProcess’ proprietary resin removal technology made compatible with Carbon’s DLS platform.

The partners also showcased the DEMI 910 system at this month’s AMUG 2021 Conference, where 3D Printing Industry observed building momentum of post-processing activity with no fewer than 15 companies covering all aspects of post-processing on display at the expo.

Through the partnership, Carbon customers will be granted access to a more streamlined and scalable end-to-end workflow, and have agreed to continue to partner on future printers and resins going forwards.

“We are proud to lead the industry into production applications with full-stack, sustainable solutions offering improved safety at the workplace and reduced waste, addressing Carbon customers’ specific needs,” continued Caplow.

The DEMI 910

PostProcess’ SVC technology works by immersing a 3D printed part in one of PostProcess’ proprietary detergents while rotating it in a mechanical drum with vortexes. At the same time, the system uses ultrasonic waves to create high-frequency pressure around the part, causing the weak support connections to break off while leaving the part intact.

Leveraging SVC technology, the DEMI 910 is capable of processing an entire build platform from Carbon’s large-format L1 printer, or two builds from Carbon’s high-resolution M2 printer at once.

Due to a specialized fixture design, Carbon DLS printed parts can be processed by the DEMI 910 without having to leave the build platform. This leads to improved ergonomics, faster post-print cycle times, and increased productivity for technicians.

Integrated with the DEMI 910 is a Carbon-specific detergent that is compatible with the company’s most popular resins, namely EPU 41, EPX 82, MPU 100, RPU 70, RPU 130, UMA 90, and LOCTITE 3D IND 405 Clear. The resin is specifically engineered to optimize the quality of DLS printed parts, improve operating safety, and increase throughput for the firm’s resin post-processing.

The system is powered by PostProcess’ AUTOMAT3D software platform which uses proprietary algorithms to control the energy, speed, direction, and temperature of the resin removal process to prevent breakages and failures.

Several early access units of the DEMI 910 have reportedly already been ordered by Carbon customers, indicating high market demand for the system.

Last month, PostProcess’ DEMI 430 resin removal post-process system was chosen by South Dakota-based 3D printing service Primary Manufacturing to increase the throughput and productivity of its resin 3D printing processes. The company deploys Carbon’s DLS printers to produce plastic parts, prototypes and models for a variety of customers and applications.

PostProcess and Carbon are set to host a joint webinar ‘Carbon 3D Printing: Maximizing throughput, safety, and efficiency with full-stack post-processing’ to provide more information on the DEMI 910 and their ongoing partnership on June 22nd.
