Vitaly sunglasses throw shade on Kickstarter

Do you want a totally custom set of sunglasses? Well if you have simply refused to buy off the shelf and spent your days squinting into the sun then Vitaly is heading to Kickstarter on June 15th with the answer you’ve been waiting for.

The Italian brand will give you a choice of 10 basic styles and then everything else is up to you. There is a choice of 17 different colors that provide a huge number of combinations and you can also have your name emblazoned down the side. This is sun worshipping with a unique slant.

Get your own personal brand

The press always tells us to work on our personal brand. Well, now you can wear it too in a subtle form of personal sponsorship. The nature of 3D printing means that you can have your own signature on the arm of your glasses, or your catchphrase, or your company name. You can do what you like.

You can even change your glasses to suit your outfit with a series of interchangeable fronts and temples. Dress them up or down for the beach or stepping out at night and go for any one of the six different lens options. You can choose from standard finishes or the standout options of yellow, blue, pink or orange.

Don’t thing these are novelty items that will sit idly by while the sun singes your retinas, either, the lenses are fully certified and up to code.

Vitaly Sunglasses, bespoke 3D printing for a tailored look

80s style

These sunglasses give you the power to make your own style statement, or fashion faux pas. If you really want to make an impression then you can go for the 80s-inspired Fluo frames, fluorescent frames that glow in the dark. So if you want everyone to know you’ve arrived in the club and you’re wearing shades, here is the answer.

These shades are lightweight, weighing in at just 12g (0.4 Oz) and they measurre just 2mm thick. They’re produced with Select Laser Sintering, too, so they offer the best possible finish and a conversation piece in themselves.

Now a bespoke finish never comes cheap and the early bird special on the starter kit will be €59 ($67). A FLUO kit that covers every possible eventuality with a mix of 10 different front and arm sets will set you back €699 ($790). With this level of custom finish and technology in its embryonic stages, nothing comes cheap.

Greatness in the making

The company has been with us since 2014, in the loosest sense, but the idea for bespoke printed glasses came together in 2015 when Enea Vitali visited Plife Technology. The seeds were sewn and, in 2016, Farmakoff was founded to focus on the 3D printed sunglasses.

Enea has concentrated on the optics, Gabriele and Andrea on the 3D design and Orges has become the resident printing expert. Together, the family will take its concept to the Shark Tank of Kickstarter and go looking for the funding for a truly bespoke product.

Bespoke is the future of fashion and 3D printing

We keep reinforcing the fact that one of the main benefits of 3D printing will be the level of customization that it brings to the manufacturing process. Vitaly sunglasses is a case in point and it shows the direction that fashion is heading. Soon we could all live like the mythical millionaire with monogrammed everything, but for now we can start with a pair of cool shades with our name on them.

The Kickstarter goes live on June 15th and we think Vitaly Sunglasses’ future might be so bright, it will have to wear shades.
