Two Scholarships Offered to Attend AMUG 3D Printing Conference 2015

The Additive Manufacturing Users Group has just announced two new scholarships being offered to attend their 2015 AMUG Conference April 19th – 23rd in Jacksonville, Florida. All qualifying students and educators passionate about additive manufacturing are welcome to apply for the scholarships that will benefit a single student and a single professor.

The two memorial scholarships are being offered in memory of long time AMUG supporters Guy Bourdeau and Randy Stevens, who were both very involved with the additive manufacturing education and advocacy organization. AMUG boasts membership from some of the leading names in the industrial 3D printing industry, such as: Stratasys, Concept Laser, ExOne, Renishaw, HP, SLM Solutions, 3D Systems, and GE. The annual AMUG Conference provides educational presentations and training on new additive manufacturing technology, workflow and processes.

amug_board“The AMUG Conference is a unique experience where information is freely exchanged to promote education, training and knowledge that helps individuals get the most from additive manufacturing. Through these scholarships, we can offer that experience to a student and an educator that might otherwise be unable to attend,” AMUG president Mark Barfoot explained, “These scholarships embody Guy’s and Randy’s spirit and passion for additive manufacturing, and they continue the legacy of two giving gentlemen.”

The first of the two scholarships will be awarded annually to a college student who is pursuing a degree in any major that has a significant emphasis on additive manufacturing technology. The Guy E. Bourdeau Scholarship was founded by his wife, Renee Bourdeau, with the intention of exposing a young student to the industry contacts and shared industry experience at the AMUG that they would typically not have access to. According to 2014’s recipient Kaiyi Jiang, “AMUG 2014 was an unforgettable experience in my life. I felt that I was plugged into a powerful source and enriched by new knowledge every day. I’ve never felt more welcomed and invited to join in activities and conversations.”

Randy Stevens employer In’Tech Industries founded the Randy Stevens Scholarship to be awarded to a college level educator that focuses on or uses additive manufacturing technologies in their classes. In’Tech Industries is looking for educators that inspire their pupils to be part of the growing list of students graduating with additive manufacturing experience.

Both of the available scholarships will include the winners’ travel, meals, and hotel costs, as well as include full passes for the AMUG conference. Winners will be selected based on how closely they demonstrate the qualities of the scholarship namesake, and will be selected by the AMUG. Applications will be accepted until February 27, 2015. You can find out more about the AMUG Conference here, and read the scholarship guidelines and requirements on the AMUG Scholarship page.
