Lately, applying 3D printing to create unique and customized phone covers has been all about the various iPhone models. No wonder, Apple has been the popular kid in the class, and selling the phones better than ever. But, Samsung, with its Galaxy series, while still playing catch up, is making some headway.

For those who appreciate the bigger screen on their phones, and want their own 3D printed covers, there is light at the end of the tunnel. 3D Materialize Ltd, a design firm from the UK, presented some sample work of 3D printed Samsung Galaxy S III phone covers at i.materialise. Have a look at some samples below.

I would like to make my own covers design for I phone, samsung galaxy ….

    But
It’s hard to find blue print or 3D mesh of simple covers. It would be
great if this kind of website propose free 3D model of simple covers.
Then We could modify without thinking: Will it fit to my phone?? :)

Definitely something for us to look at, in terms of finding open source, customizable designs. However, for now your best port of call would be the 3DP service providers. Most, have got cool customisable apps for phone covers that you can modify and then 3D print yourself. Sculpteo and Cubify are probably the most developed.

Also, with the news breaking over the weekend about Nokia getting in on the customizable 3DP action, I think more phone manufacturers will follow suit, and it may well all get proprietary. But I don’t doubt the OS community will push back!
